S. Sohail Ahmed
Sohail Ahmed received his BA degree from the Johns Hopkins University and MD degree from the University of Texas at Houston where he specialized in internal medicine and rheumatology (clinical immunology, inflammation, and autoimmunity). He received his MBA degree from the IE Business School.
Dr. Ahmed’s current and/or previous industry appointments include Chief Medical Officer at Kling Biotherapeutics BV, Senior Vice President and Global Head of Translational Medicine at Galapagos NV, Translational Medicine Leader at Roche Pharmaceuticals, Global Head of Clinical Sciences at GSK Vaccines and also at Novartis Vaccines, and Translational Medicine Expert in Autoimmunity and Transplantation at Novartis Pharmaceuticals (Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research). He held clinical faculty positions in the Division of Rheumatology & Immunogenetics at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, Section of Rheumatology at Boston University School of Medicine, and the Division of Rheumatology, Allergy, Immunology at Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts General Hospital.
Dr. Ahmed's research training includes a cancer immunology fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center, a cardiology fellowship (Sarnoff Fellow) at the National Institutes of Health, and a rheumatology fellowship from the American College of Rheumatology. He also received post-doctoral certification in Advanced Vaccinology for infectious diseases from the Foundation Merieux and Université de Genève. Dr. Ahmed is a member of the Stanley J. Sarnoff Cardiovascular Research Foundation, the American College of Rheumatology, and the Infectious Diseases Society of America. He has active medical licenses in the US (Commonwealth of Massachusetts) and Italy (Ordine dei Medici Chirurghi di Siena).
